The 2025 NAF has got you someone skilled in many arts: Aldo Brincat hails from Cape Town and started writing at the age of 16. His first play Orchids for Moira was performed in his school. He is the winner of multiple awards. He’s been in this field for a very long time and many things have changed during his time of performing his work. “My writing style evolved a lot, what I write about has also changed,” he said.

Brincat has been performing at the Festival for twenty-three years now and he said the NAF has made his career what it is today. Brincat is still offering his significant skills to the NAF. The multi-award winner is showcasing two of his shows at this festival: The Moon Looks Delicious from Here and Masc.

Brincat’s gift has evolved over time – developing his own voice, body, and presence on stage as a political statement. In his plays he explores themes such as political matters, social justice issues, and the embracing of each other as people. “I seem to not be able to do something else, I can’t write about entertainment, I always write about matters that affect us such as how to be kind, see, and be inclusive,” he said. “Sometimes I write about something that has been boiling inside of me, other times something that is happening in the news.”

With a background in physical theatre – he trained in Paris to be a circus clown – Brincat infuses all these elements in his plays.

Brincat’s show – The Moon Looks Delicious from Here – explores one of the few experiences humans can share across the world. “The title of the show comes from an experience I had many times, if you are in Joburg and I’m in Cape Town we can see the moon at the same time even though you’re in a different place. It’s one of the few experiences that we can share as humans across the planet, so I was thinking about that. I like the idea that we live on the same heart and on the same planet,” he said.
