Makana LFA Premier League clubs are slowly gaining momentum.

On Saturday, in Stream A, Joza Callies Football Club and Love and Peace Football Club played out to a 2-2 draw while Jacaranda Aces narrowly beat new kids on the block, Joza Stars 1-0.

Cameroon’s Premier League woes continued as they suffered another heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Hellenic.

Riebeek City continued their good start to the new season when they held title contenders Sophia Stars to a 2-2 stalemate.

On Sunday, Stream B log leaders Golden Eagles tamed Makana Tigers 3-1 while Young Eagles used their Regional League experience when they thrashed newly-promoted Rising Stars 5-1.

Riebeek East Academy failed to make use of their home ground advantage as they played out to a 3-3 draw against Seven Stars.

Rhodes University came from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw against an improved Golden Brothers side in a thrill-a-minute clash that was nearly spoilt by hard and dangerous tackles that went unpunished.

Most coaches complained about the conditions their teams were forced to play under. The field was unmarked, making it difficult for both players and match officials.

Makana LFA secretary Akhona Heshu explained the situation. “We were caught in other commitments and were unable to go to the bank to withdraw money to buy lime. We understand the frustrations of coaches and match officials and we will make sure that everything is sorted for this weekend.”

Heshu also responded to the issue of starting a new season without holding an annual general meeting (AGM). “We were supposed to have an AGM a while ago but the clubs did not meet the required number as per the constitution and we will have another one on 8 December.”
