League debutants Joza Stars have been crowned the 2024 Makana LFA champions.

They collected maximum points this past weekend starting with a 2-1 victory over Jacaranda Academy on Saturday before edging Mayfield by a single goal on Sunday.

Joza Stars had a brilliant debut season, winning the championship on their first attempt, with five draws and only one defeat, finishing with a nine-point gap between them and runners-up Riebeek East Academy.

Joza Stars’ manager and coach Siyabonga Zondani was pleased with his charges’ performance. “I’m happy with our boys’ performance and this is a result of hard work. We knew what we wanted from as early as the first game. It is not easy to work with these young boys but we managed to achieve what we wanted to achieve.”

He told Grocott’s Mail about their readiness for the Premier League. “We are not going there to add numbers but to compete. We are not signing any new player as we believe that we have capable players who can deliver at the biggest stage.”

Joza Stars have been consistent this season and attracted big crowds to their games, playing good attacking football with a bit of flair. It will be very interesting to see how they fare in the top division where they will face tougher opposition.
