A spirit of collaboration and community was displayed at Rhodes University on 2 August, as the Student Representative Council (SRC) held the Blend Bazaar, a market day designed to promote local economic growth. The event at Rhodes’s Drosty Lawns brought together diverse local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and student entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services.

The Blend Bazaar was a lively and colourful event, with stalls offering everything from handmade jewellery and fashion to locally sourced food and artisanal goods. The event attracted many students, faculty, and community members, who browsed the stalls and chatted with the vendors.

In addition to promoting local economic growth, the Blend Bazaar also aimed to bridge the gap between the university and the local community, fostering a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation. This goal was reflected in the event’s diversity of vendors, which included established businesses and up-and-coming student entrepreneurs.

A few students had reviews and comments about the market day: “I’m really impressed with the range of goods on offer here,” one said.

“It’s great to see so many local entrepreneurs showcasing their talents. And the atmosphere is fantastic – it’s like a big celebration of our community,” said another.

The Blend Bazaar is a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity, and it demonstrates the potential for universities to serve as hubs for innovation and economic development.

The Blend Bazaar was also a festive occasion, with live music and entertainment adding to the lively atmosphere.
