Boxing fans made their way to the Joza Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday to cheer for their favourite boxers.

Makana Boxing Organisation (Makabo) hosted a boxing tournament for all local clubs and invited two guest clubs. Boxers from Makhanda’s Mfuzo Boxing Camp and Vukani Boxing Club, Bathurst-based Sisonke Boxing Club and Fort Beaufort’s Bayethe Boxing Club, exchanged leather.

There were some interesting bouts but the bout that got the fans on their feet for the entire duration of the fight, was the last bout between Kuhle Futha of Sisonke Boxing Club and Hlombelethu Sinxo of Mfuzo Boxing Camp.

In the first round, the boxers went toe-to-toe exchanging explosive blows. In the second round, Sinxo’s hand speed and hard punching did the trick for him as he often caught Futha with solid body punches that took the wind out of his sails.

In the third and final round, Futha tried to fight back with his own combinations and often caught Sinxo with his right hook and straight right, but his punches lacked the sting as he was tiring and fighting on the back foot most of the time.

Sinxo won the fight on a unanimous points decision. The fans applauded both boxers for their great display of good boxing and for showing good sportsmanship throughout the fight.
