    Willows, Makana, record first wins, Salem and Cuylerville unbeaten

    Willows and Makana Sona recorded their first wins of the season in the Grahamstown Cricket Board (GCB) 1st League over the weekend against Rhodes, while Salem and Cuylerville still unbeaten and the teams to beat.

    Eldrich George (115 – Willows), Chris Gleaves (100* – Cuylerville), Peter Frans (114 – Swallows), Renato Visagie (101 – Swallows), Franklin Jacobs (129 – Station Hill), Sipho Saki (128 – Station Hill), Jeremy Machlahlan (121 – Sidbury 2nd) all scored centuries for their respective clubs over the past weekend. Jamie Renton (6/37 – Cuylerville), Marco Loutz (6/12 – Swallows), Louis Oosthuizen (6/17 – Port Alfred 2nd), Juandre Nel (5/55 – Sidbury 2nd), Mike Mattison (5/64 – Salem 2nd) were the bowlers who took 5-wicket hauls.

    GCB 1ST LEAGUE

    SALEM VS SIDBURY
    Salem proved too strong for Sidbury and claimed another impressive bonus-point win. Salem batted first and posted a massive 282 (46.1 overs), and bowled out the visitors for just 98 (26.2). Kevin Bennett made his comeback for Salem and top score with a decent 60, while Chris Van der Meulen 57 and Leard King 56 also provide fireworks with the bat. Gradwell 3/35 (10), Evans 3/36 (5.1), and Roth 2/40 (7) were the wicket-takers for Sidbury.
    Salem’s bowlers came out blazing and bowled extremely good with excellent control. King 3/30 (6), Dollery 3/23 (5) and Wakeford 2/17 (7) starred with the ball in securing yet another dominant win. Gradwell top score with 22 for Sidbury
    Salem won by 184 runs + bonus point.

    SOUTHWELL VS CUYLERVILLE
    Southwell batted first and were bowled out for 164 runs. Kyle Van Niekerk 39, Chris Roberts 26 and Tinus Joubert, 31, were the top run-scorers for Southwell. Jamie Renton was in fine form with the ball and returned with excellent figures of 6/37, while Mike Micklejohn claimed 2/36.
    Cuylerville batsman Chris Gleaves scored an undefeated 100* and was the star batsman for his side. Brandon Handley contributed 35. Dylan Kruger took 3/60 for Southwell.
    Cuylerville won by six wickets + bonus point.
