The Cathedral of St Michael and St George

The Cathedral Choir of St Michael and St George and Makana Choir School invites all parents of young singers to the Makana Choir School AGM taking place on Sunday 5 September 2021.

The Makana Choir School is a choral programme that aims to educate and enrich young talented individuals into becoming competent singers and choristers. Choristers sing in the context of the Cathedral Choir of St Michael and St George, under the group, Cathedral Iimvumi.

Choristers receive tuition in theory, sight-reading and choral technique to a high standard and attend rehearsals every Wednesday during term time. New choristers begin at 4.15 pm and are joined by full choristers from 5 pm until 6.30 pm. The Iimvumi sing on Sunday mornings during term time at the 9.30 am communion service and at special church festivals.

The Makana Choir School has annual full and half scholarship packages available. There are currently four full scholarship packages for commissioned choristers and four half scholarship packages for four new choristers who progressed through the probationer programme displaying excellent commitment and showing considerable development as Cathedral choristers. The scholarships amount to R5 500 for a full scholarship which goes directly to the learner’s school tuition fees.

We welcome all prospective parents of learners from Grades 5–10, and their children to join us at our AGM meeting at The Cathedral of St Michael and St George, on Sunday 5 September after the 9.30 am Service where parents and learners will also have the opportunity to hear the Cathedral Iimvumi singing during the 9.30 am service.

The clergy, director of music and choir school committee will be available for any further questions after the meeting.
