Police arrested three men for possession of dagga valued over R50 000 in Makhanda today.

South African Police Service Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli said a police vehicle on patrol on the Makana Brick Road east of Makhanda in the early hours of Tuesday 27 July spotted a blue Toyota Corolla traveling towards town. Because it was travelling during the lockdown curfew, they stopped it.

“The three occupants of the vehicle, started acting suspiciously and also could not produce a permit to be on the road,” Majoli said.

They searched the vehilce and found four bags of dagga with an estimated value of around R51 500 stashed in the boot.

“The three men were arrested and the dagga seized,” Nkohli said.

The suspects aged between 20 and 36 are due to appear in the  Magistrate’s Court in Makhanda on Wednesday, 28 July 2021 on charges of possession of dagga and contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
