Makhanda imbongi Dumisa Mpupha at the Amazwi/ Grocott's Mail 'Scots meets isiXhosa' pop-up poetry cafe at Amazwi on 7 June. Photo: Tom Jeffery

The poet is talking about the corona virus which is currently killing many in China. The virus is believed to spread rapidly from country to country but the imbongi is telling it to leave South Africans/Africans alone – especially the residents of Makhanda – as they are still busy trying to fix their challenges.

Nihlabe nikhangele mawethu

Mabandlandini kaNtu nivile na?
