Trying Stars outclass Star of Hope

The Trying Stars first team recorded an impressive and dominant 50-26 bonus point win over Star of Hope in their EPRU Super League Top 12 Competition at the Wentzel Park Sports Ground in Alexandria last weekend. Trying Stars were leading 26-19 at halftime.

Trying Stars scored their first try in the first minute of the match. Flinn Cannon scored the first of his hat-trick after some excellent inter-play between the forwards and backs. Trying Stars scored three tries within the first 15 minutes of the first half.

The Trying Stars backs were in full control, scoring all eight tries. Flinn and Sherwin Cannon scored three tries each, while centre Sihle Mendile also contributed a brace. Kelvano King and Garth Oosthuizen also enjoyed good games and were instrumental in assisting with most of the tries. Oosthuizen contributed 10 points with the boot and controlled the game with his general vision.

Star of Hope’s bigger forwards had the upper hand up front, especially at the scrums but could not convert the pressure into points. The visitors’ discipline let them down throughout the match, as Trying Stars capitalised. The Star of Hope defence was also found wanting.

Meanwhile, the Brumbies travelled to Port Elizabeth on Saturday to take on African Bombers but the match was called off by the referee five minutes into the second half. Trying Stars will face Born Fighters in Alexandria on Saturday.
