The captain and star batsman of Salem Second team, Lorrimer Pittaway, was in devastation mode with the bat against Kenton on Saturday 1 December. He helped his team trounce arch rivals Kenton by a bonus point 470-run win, in their GCB Derby Encounter.
There were also other fine centuries over the past weekend by Chris Gleaves (131 (Manleys Flats 2nds)), Chris Fredericks (137 (Southwell 2nds)), Patrick Buthi (115 (Salem 2nds)) and Paul Winsbury (101* (Salem 2nds)).
Pittaway scored an unbeaten 206 runs not out, which was also his highest total in the league. He was in sublime form with the bat and dispatched the helpless Kenton bowlers to all corners of the park. Pittaway is also the leading run scorer with 483 in the GCB 2nd league.
Salem batted first and posted a mammoth 538/4 in their allotted 50 overs. This was the highest score in the history for Salem Seconds and a record in the Second league this season. Buthi scored his second century of the season with a hurricane 115. He is also the second highest run scorer this season with 466. Winsbury added a brilliant flamboyant unbeaten 101*, while cameos from Rob Van Der Merwe 40 and Ant Scheepers 37 came in handy.
Kenton found their way back to the pavilion in no time, for a mere 68 runs, due to excellent and accurate bowling by Salem. Ross Pittaway was the destroyer-in-chief for Salem and bowled with extreme pace and swing. He returned excellent figures of 6/22 (5). Veteran Mike Mattison also bowled well for his 2/27.
