The Grahamstown Cricket Board (GCB) First and Second leagues continued over the weekend of 19-21 October. Southwell’s captain and opening batsman, James Stirk recorded his third consecutive century in the First league, while Marquin Loutz scored 107 runs for Willows.

    Salem vs Willows

Willows Cricket Club continued its unbeaten run with a bonus point 62 run win over Salem. Willows also moved to the top of the GCB first league, overtaking Salem who held that top spot since the start of the season.

Willows batted first and posted a defendable 250 all out. Willows looked set to post 300 but collapsed after Marquin Loutz (107) and Thandisile (73) ended their 185 run partnership. Loutz also scored an unbeaten 93* last week against Cuylerville. Nicholas Zimmerman 3/22 (5), Matt Liesenberg 2/57 (10) and Kevin Zimmerman 2/19 (6), were amongst the wicket takers for Salem.

Willows’ bowlers put the home side under constant pressure and took wickets at regular intervals. Chris Van der Meulen (34), Brad Wilmot (35) and Nick Wilmot (25) showed good resistance, but it was not enough. Cole Wessels was the pick of the Willows bowlers with return figures of 4/44 (9). Duane Brown 3/30 (7) and Melville Daniels 2/24 (7) gave great support. Salem were bowled out for 188.

    Sidbury vs Port Alfred

Sidbury beat Port Alfred in a 5 wicket bonus point victory. Port Alfred batted first and were bowled out for 153. Damon Weeks took 5/20 (10) while Stefan Schoeman 2/22 (10) and Wesley Cue 2/23 (7) supported him well.
Sidbury reached the target with five wickets down in 31.5 overs. Grant Stone (40), Huge Savage (39) and Carl Van Niekerk (28*) were SIdbury’s top batsmen on the day.
