The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is delighted and proud of its Traffic Department for its excellent services which has led to it being nominated as one of the best amongst its counterparts.

The BCMM Traffic Services was nominated as a finalist at the 4th Annual Transport awards ceremony in the event hosted by the Honourable Transport Minister recently.

Representing the Eastern Cape, the Traffic Services Department received a certificate as a finalist for the Best improved Driving License testing Centre In transport

The BCMM Traffic Services is nationally renowned for its hard work and this accolade will go a long way in motivating its driven personnel.

The BCMM Public Safety Portfolio Head Councillor Amanda Mnyute described the award as encouraging and deserving.

“Our Traffic and Law Enforcement officials exercise high professional standards which are aimed at ensuring that our citizens live in a safe and healthy environment, “Mnyute said, ” and they put people first in everything that they do so it is good that the country is watching us and are acknowledging the hard work that these men and women in uniform put in.”

The Department holds regular successful operations throughout the city and they are instrumental in managing traffic during international and national.

Recently, the Department launched its Automated Number-plate Recognition (ANPR) bus – which has assisted in the collection of outstanding fines; execution of outstanding warrants of arrest and the finalisation of traffic ticket cases.

Since the introduction of the ANPR bus, the payment rate of outstanding traffic fines has increased significantly as motorists can be pay on the spot.

In line with its transformation agenda the BCMM Traffic Department last week also appointed two women to senior positions of superintendent and assistant superintendent.
