The following poem is about Winnie Madikizela Mandela who passed on on 2 April, 2018. The poet is saying she was and still is the heroine of the struggle and South Africa lost one of the best women who has ever lived.

MAMA WELIZWE
Ngu: Dumisa Mpupha
(Owayo simnik’imbeko)

Ligqekrezil’izulu laseMzantsi Afrika
Lasina lisinekel’umhlaba iGoli
Wahlahlamb’umzi wonke uphela
Kwalila nosebeleni
Zaw’iintang’amadod’esazilungisa
Zenyel’iimbiza amantomb’epheka
Zakuvakal’ezo ndaba ngawe

Siyali-i- i-ila ngawe mama welizwe
Wena wawubamb’ushushu wapholela ezandleni
Ukumka kweqhawekazi madoda
Naqhawekazi elo mzabalazo
Abazabalazi kwizindlu ngezindlu bayakhahlela
Bathi wena mama welizwe
Umke xa umhlaba usondele kuba niniwo

Ha-a- amba mama uMandela!
Dumo lwakho lukufanele
Koyiyizelwa xa ungena phakathi kwabo
Koba bokhumbula ukungawu tshikileli umzabalazo
Wokwangiwa ngo mama Sisulu

Nendingaba bizanga bayaziwa

Kwelo khaya leengqwele!
Liya kuphakama inqindi
Inqindi lika mayibuye
Nenqindi lobumnyama lophakanyiswa
Izandla ezivuliweyo zokuvuthulula uthuli
Sebephambi kwakho nawe uthetha nabo
Sele ukhumbula indlela ozabalaze ngayo
Iimeko zingakuvumeli kodwa wema umi

Ntombi kaMadikizela sikuqhwabela izandla sikubethela umbande
Sirhuq’amabhayi sithi lala ngoxolo hamba kakuhle
Uzwe lonke uyakhahlela
Inene oomachaza ngezandla bakubonile
Oomachaza ngezandla bophumla
Kuba bayazi wena nzala kaKhongolose
Nontlalontle, nkokhelikazi yomzabalazo
Kwamhlab’uyalingana akunayo intanga
Ofana nawe siza kumfumana phi na?
Camaguuu!
