Port Alfred police last night arrested a man for dealing in drugs at his home, according to spokesperson Captain Mali Govender.

“At approximately 10.15pm members of the Port Alfred Cluster OCC team arrested a male aged 33 for dealing in drugs at his residence in Nemato,” she said.

Boss mandrax tablets, and a small pack of crystal meth tik, together with a value of around R1 600, were seized, Govender said along with R2557 found in his possession.

The suspect is due to appear in the Port Alfred Magistrates court on Monday 14 August.

This follows the recovery by Kenton Police of mandrax tablets worth R25 600 during an investigation to find a stolen cellphone last week.

Govender said the officers stopped at a house pointed out by the complainant, where they were greeted by the suspected cellphone thief and allowed to search the premises.

“While the search was being undertaken, the suspect went towards his clothing in the cupboard,” Govender said. “Under the watchful eye of the team, an envelope fell from the cupboard.”

The envelope contained 320 mandrax tablets with a total value R 25 600, Govender said. A 31-year-old man was arrested and was due to appear this week in the Kenton on Sea magistrate’s court on a charge of possession of mandrax.

Back to Port Alfred, a police constable was assaulted by a suspect who tried to escape following his arrest for domestic violence.

“The fleeing suspect was arrested by the injured constable,” Govender said. “The member was treated and continued with his duties.”

The suspect faces additional charges of assault on a police officer.

While conducting a back to basics operation the Cluster team arrested a 17-year-old for possession of three mandrax tablets valued at approximately R150. Both suspects were to appear in the
    Port Alfred Magistrates court.
