The boy implicated in the murder of a Joza girl in December will return to court on 20 February after magistrate Nomnikelo Jebese postponed the matter in the magistrate's court in Grahamstown.

The boy has been remanded while waiting for his bail application.

The 16-year-old appeared alone in Jebese’s court on Friday 20 January, while his two co-accused, both 18, appeared in magistrate Ntsoki Moni’s court on the same day, for the second day running.

They too will appear on 20 February.

Moni said it was not right that people facing the same charge appeared on different dates. She said all the accused should appear on the same date at the same time.

However, while the three will appear on the same day for a bail application, it is unclear whether they will appear in the same courtroom when they return in February.

The three were arrested after a girl, reportedly around 15, was found on a dump site near a Joza High School in December.

Police said she had stab wounds on her upper body.

In Jebese’s court during the 16-year-old’s appearance today, the media were asked to leave the courtroom and wait outside.
