Jason Meaton has enjoyed great success on the Mountain Bike over the past few weeks. This weekend Meaton finished second in the Steeltek Classic 60km race which took place from the Hopewell Estate in Port Elizabeth.

According to the race website, the race is “the longest-running MTB race in SA”. Meaton finished in 2 hours 27 minutes 48 seconds. Overall winner was Marco Joubert who won in 2:19:25.

A week earlier, Meaton won the Thomas River MTB Challenge 65km in a time of 2:37:13. The 65km was made up of single track, together with many steep hills, while riders had to make a number of river crossings. Finishing second, over ten minutes later, was Jason Reed.

At the beginning of October, the Meaton couple, Jason and his wife Gemma, took part in the Tour De Vallei Mountain Bike Race in Patensie. Jason went on to take the overall title in a time of 2:13:42, almost two minutes ahead of second placed Steven Venter.

Not to be outdone, Gemma went on to win the women’s section in 2:38:09.

Jason featured on the SuperSports SuperCycling this week for the Makro Bestmed Cycle Tour’s 52km mountain bike race which he won in 2:28:12, over a minute ahead of second placed Marco Joubert.

This weekend sees Jason taking part in the Trans Elands two-day stage race which covers a total distance of 183km over the two days.

The event takes place from the Wacky Woods Private River Resort on Saturday (Stage 1) and Sunday (Stage 2).
