Grahamstown police are investigating a case of armed robbery after a local store was allegedly attacked by armed men on Friday 2 September.

Police spokesperson Captain Luvuyo Mjekula said it was alleged that the complainant was in a store in Cloncore Street when he noticed a man carrying a gun walking nearby.

Mjekula said the man walked away but came back and pointed the firearm at to the man in the store.

“The complainant noticed that there were four other unknown men around. He was then hit with the gun and instructed to open the safe.

“The suspects fled in a getaway vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money, cigarettes and cellphones,” said Mjekula.

No arrests have yet been made but police are following leads and appeal to community members for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Anyone with information is urged to call Warrant Officer Mpiyane at Grahamstown station on 046 603 9152.
