Rhodes University students will wait for the Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Blade Nzimande's announcement on whether there would be a fees increase next year.

Student Representative Council (SRC) President Mlondolozi Gift Sandi said on Thursday 18 August that during their mass meeting on Wednesday evening they decided to wait for the minister's announcement.

“As a representative of the students and based on the conversation we had on the mass meeting of last night, for now the SRC is tasked with finding more information on this before we act as the student body.”

Vice-Chancellor Dr Sizwe Mabizela has said another year of zero fee increases in would place the higher education system in a precarious position, unless the state could provide shortfall funding.
