Kingswood College hosted an inaugural Music School of the Future Conference last weekend.

Kingswood College hosted an inaugural Music School of the Future Conference last weekend.

Professor Ed Sarath, Professor of Music in the Department of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance was the keynote speaker.

Sarath applies to music teaching a "consciousness-based" world view called Integral Theory, a notion that counters duality.

His opening address was titled: The Music School of the Future: Improvisation, Creativity and Consciousness.

Political analyst and author Eusebius McKaiser explored whether or not artists have duties.

Other speakers included National Arts Festival CEO Tony Lankester, Elene Cloete, Mandy Carver and Buskaid founder Rosemary Nalden.

More than 70 delegates came from the US, Botswana, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Gauteng, North West and various areas in the Eastern Cape.
