Jaco Kriel, who made his Springbok debut in tonight's 19-13 victory over Ireland, had some surprising words about the game.

The flanker, who replaced Siya Kolisi, said: "As I sat in the changeroom afterwards, I was trying to forget what happened [in]the game, and I actually couldn't remember almost anything (sic) – and there, I realised how quickly it goes past!"

Kriel is part of a Lions side that currently sits top of the South African Super Rugby conference. However, he has yet to start a game for the Springboks.

Nevertheless, he said that he has spoken to Springbok coach Allister Coetzee often since his appointment.

"Me and Coach Allister spoke every week. From the start, I understood that he was going with Francois Louw because he's a really good openside flanker and he's proved himself in the past – and even today, he had a really good game."

"For me, on a personal level, I would like to specialise more in the fetching role… I really believe my running ability and suppport play is up to date – but yes, whatever the team needs, I will try and provide that."
