A Grahamstown Uncedo Service Taxi Association official who wanted to remain anonymous today dismissed rumours that the taxi owners were planning a protest.
He said the only thing that would happen is that the taxi owners would go to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport MEC Weziwe Tikana's office in Bhisho and ask why the department does not give them route permits.
"Route permits are the documents that allow us to do our work. Now we want the MEC to clarify to us why we not getting the permits, as this is making our business difficult.
"On behalf of Uncedo, we have heard the rumours that there will be a protest tomorrow and taxis but we will see tomorrow morning what will happen," said the official.
Grahamstown police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said police have not heard anything about the rumoured protest.
