Grahamstown's annual celebration of the human voice – the Masicule ("let's sing") massed choir event – takes place this weekend, Sunday 8 May and Monday 9 May in Guy Butler theatre at the Monument.

Rehearsals are reaching their peak this week and, in order to give audiences an idea of what the event is all about, the organisers have created four short videos which include footage of rehearsals and interviews with choristers and organisers.
Watch them here to find out more.

Special guest star this year is popular Durban-based indiefolk artist, Majozi, whose songs The River, Fire and Darling have topped SA charts and who performed at the National Arts Festival last year.

15 local choirs are taking part, several of which are collaborating especially for the event. These include: Ntsika Secondary School and Sakhuluntu Adult Choir; Diocesan School for Girls and St Andrew’s College; Nombulelo High School and Abancedisi Adult Choir; Victoria Girls High School, Graeme College and Nathaniel Nyaluza Secondary School; Kingswood College and Mary Waters; St George’s Cathedral and Pro Carmine Choir; Signature Sound; Gareth Walwyn directing Run to You.

The choirs will perform with Majozi as well as doing some surprise mass numbers – featuring all 500 choristers on stage at once.
MC-ing the event will be local celebrities Khaya Kondile (Uyabona Ke) and Ayanda Nondlwana (Via Kasi Movers).

You can get tickets from Makana Tourism Office, Access Music (Ext 6 Joza Hub), Fusion (Pepper Grove), National Arts Festival (Monument) or at the door.

You can also buy tickets from participating schools.
To find out more, contact Project Manager, Carolyn Stevenson-Milln at 046 603 1103.

Tickets: R40 adults, R20 students and pensioners.
