As a young man in his early twenties, Tony Reynolds entered the familiar building housing the then Grahamstown Building Society in Hill Street to begin what was to become a marathon career with GBS.
As a young man in his early twenties, Tony Reynolds entered the familiar building housing the then Grahamstown Building Society in Hill Street to begin what was to become a marathon career with GBS.
At the end of March 2016, Reynolds retires from the bank after 37 years of service.
A familiar figure around Grahamstown, Reynolds recalls that in his very first job with GBS, he was assigned to the investment department where he became assistant to investment manager, Doug Meyer.
He now holds the position of senior manager in the loans and investments department, which he says, “has allowed me to spend more time dealing with clients which has always been a big plus for me working at the GBS, dealing face-to-face with our clients".
Over the years he has served as fixed deposit clerk, cash book clerk, bond department clerk, investment department supervisor, loans and investments manager and finally senior loans and investments manager.
Consequently he has become adept at and knowledgeable about almost every facet of banking procedures and investment trends.
Reynolds has lived in Grahamstown all his life, matriculated from Graeme College and has written and passed various building society and estate agents examinations.
He is married to Sue, has three sons and his hobbies are fishing, playing tennis, birding and gardening – no doubt these will keep him fairly busy during his retirement years.
