The local elections are on their way – which means that political parties will be asking for your votes.

The local elections are on their way – which means that political parties will be asking for your votes.

But what exactly are they promising in return? What better way to find that out than by asking the candidates themselves?

Starting at the beginning of April and running till the end of May, Grocott's Mail and Radio Grahamstown have got together to bring you Election Connection 2016 – a series of opportunities to get the answers you need from the people who want to run our City.

We'll start with four "town hall" debates at venues all around Grahamstown (see below for details) where you can come and join our audience and ask the panel of would-be councillors all the questions you want to – whether it's about roads, toilets, rubbish, power, corruption or anything else that you're concerned about.

Then, starting in May, we'll run a series of live radio phone-ins on Radio Grahamstown – again featuring those who are looking for your votes as well as all kinds of opinion, analysis, debate and information.

Watch out in Grocott's and listen out on Radio Grahamstown for more details and make sure you come along to one of our Election Connection 2016 events or call in and listen to the radio shows – and have your say.

Here are some dates for your diary:

All our town hall debates run from 5.30pm – 7.30pm and will feature candidates from all the main political parties.
Wednesday 6 April – BB Zondani Hall
Wednesday 13 April – Albany Recreation Hall
Wednesday 20 April – Noluthando Hall
Wednesday 4 May – City Hall

The Election Connection radio shows will run every Wednesday morning throughout May (starting May 11) on Radio Grahamstown, 102.1FM from 9am – 12noon.
