Makana Rhini United (Maru) are back to their winning ways after they thumped Eleven Attackers 4-0 in a derby match played at Fiddlers Green on Saturday (20 February).

The fixture was a South African Football Association SAB Sarah Baartman regional league fixture.

While Maru had a bye last weekend, they drew one and lost two of their past three fixtures.

Maru were awarded a penalty as early as the fourth minute after a reckless challenge by an Attackers defender. Vuyani Skeyi stepped up and needed a rebound to score after the goalkeeper saved the first attempt.

In a typical derby encounter, emotions were high from players on both sides, resulting in a couple of yellow cards flashed out. It was a highly intense first half with both teams battling it out for the valuable three points for a win.

The half time whistle blew with Maru enjoying a 1-0 lead.

Attackers' Mpumelelo Fumani received a second booking in the second half and was sent off after a dangerous tackle.

The rain did not help Attackers any more as they were down to ten men. The second half came with plenty more attacks from both sides, but Maru were able to finish off their attempts.

Maru’s second goal was scrambled into the net by Xolisa Mngcongo and the third goal was fairly-easily tapped in by Sinethemba Vamba.

Creative and neat touches led to the fourth goal scored by Mandilakhe Poswa.

The Maru goalkeeper was in the mood as he pulled up some stunning saves and saw his team take home a valuable three points.
