"Even if the Lord can take me this year, I will die happily." Those were the words of Lena Kota, on the eve of her 100th birthday, 9 January 2016.

"Even if the Lord can take me this year, I will die happily." Those were the words of Lena Kota, on the eve of her 100th birthday, 9 January 2016.

"I feel very happy," she said. "The day I was born, it was 9 January [1916]. Kota lives with her daughter, Daphne Scheepers.
"She's treated me very well ever since we came here from Alice. She does everything for me.

"Its our fourth year in this town: we live happily and I eat healthy." Kota also has a carer, while Scheepers is at work.

"My nanny, Nomzi, looks after me. She bathes me like a newborn – something that can never be done by this new generation.
"She also rubs my body when I feel pain. I have arthritis."

Bringing with them a delicious chocolate cake, DA councillors Lena May and Brian Jackson joined Kota and the rest of the family in their celebrations.
