The case of a 23-year-old man who appeared in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court Thursday 17 December on rape and house robbery charges was remanded to 16 February 2016 for further investigation, according to Grahamstown Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender.
"The accused abandoned bail. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance," Govender said.
Govender said the man was arrested by Grahamstown Crime Intelligence at a house in Victoria Road earlier this week.
This follows an incident earlier this month at a housing complex in Grahamstown.
"The victim was living alone in her flat. She had locked all her doors and windows, activated her alarm and went out to friends a little after midday.
"On her return at 6pm, she opened her door, disarmed the alarm system. The suspect who was hiding in the bathroom attacked her at knifepoint," said Govender.
The man fled with a laptop, money, digital camera and other belongings.
Govender said members of Crime Intelligence based in Grahamstown worked through their informer network and arrested the suspect.
She said several items stolen during the incident were recovered.
