Friday, 16 October 2015: Eskom wishes to warn the public about a phishing scheme where criminals claim that Eskom is offering franchise opportunities for the distribution of prepaid electricity vending machines.

The con artists claim that the distributors would be able to resell electricity at a price that they would determine themselves.

Please note that electricity prices in South Africa are determined by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) and no reseller is allowed to put any mark ups.

Eskom urges the general public not to have any dealings with the SA Tendergate website as this is a phishing scheme. Eskom also wishes to remind the public that all business opportunities available from Eskom would be advertised on its own website www.eskom.co.za.

Members of the public are urged to report incidents of fraud, corruption and irregularities involving the Eskom brand to Eskom’s toll free crime line on 0800 1127 22 or email investigate@eskom.co.za to report the incident.
