    Grahamstown police have urged members of the community to report all crime incidents, following an armed robbery at a local business yesterday.

    Grahamstown police have urged members of the community to report all crime incidents, following an armed robbery at a local business yesterday.

    Crime Intelligence Officer Milanda Coetzer said around 12.30pm on Thursday 17 September, a man entered the premises of Pronto Driving School and demanded cash from the receptionist at gunpoint.

    "The lady was very scared and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, whereafter the man left," Coetzer said.

    Followed by the driving school's owner, the man fled along Huntley Street and up Thompson Street, Coetzer said.

    Halfway up the road he turned around and pointed the weapon at his pursuer before running off again. It was then that the owner stopped following him and returned to the office to phone the security company and the police, Coetzer said.

    "Operational members were dispatched, but the man could not be traced," she said.

    "No shots were fired." Coetzer said such incidents were opportunistic and could occur at any time. "We once again ask all members of the Grahamstown community to assist us with the tracing of these suspects," she said.

    "We are confident that with the multi-disciplinary approach we follow in Grahamstown and the fact that the community works closely with us, we will be able arrest and convict these robbers as well, and put a stop to their activities."

    Coetzer called on all members of the community, including students, to report incidents to the police.

    "The SAPS has been made aware of other incidents, but cannot take action based on rumours which can often be unfounded," Coetzer said.
