A Grahamstown man yesterday pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the attack on a man in his Sunnyside home on Saturday 22 August.

Grahamstown Crime Intelligence office, Captain Milanda Coetzer, described the arrest, made this week, as very important.

Coetzer said Grahamstown Station Comander, Colonel Vuyisiwe Tembani, had set up a task team immediately after the robbery and stabbing incident in Market Street.

"A young man, local to Grahamstown, was arrested during the past week and appeared in court this morning where he pleaded guilty. He will again appear in the regional court on 23 September 2015 for finalisation and sentencing," Coetzer said.

"Warrant Officer Zukile Mpiyane, Sergeant Nethaniel Gabriel and Warrant Officer Buni followed up several leads supplied by the community. They traced the suspect, who was also wanted on an outstanding warrant of arrest."

She said DNA tests would continue. "Evidence has become available to link the suspect directly with the victim and crime scene," Coetzer said.

"On the day of the incident, Colonel Tembani promised the victim's wife that she will ensure the suspects are traced and arrested.

"She has, due to the hard work of the team, succeeded in this promise," said Coetzer.
