A second body has been found on the Mayfield commonage north-east of Grahamstown; however, police have not said that the deaths are necessarily linked.

Discovered in the early hours of Sunday 13 September, this is the second body of a woman found in the area in a week.

Herdsmen discovered the mutilated body of a woman on the commonage opposite the Mayfield Extension 10 housing development on 6 September.

Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said the second body was found in the vicinity of Makana Brick. The police were still not sure who had found it.

"The body had stab wounds. Police are still investigating," Govender said. "We are appealing to the community to work with us in finding the suspects.

"We have noticed this issue of people being killed in that area of Mayfield recently," said Govender.

However, Govender would not be drawn into speculating whether the murders were linked.

"We cannot link the murder to the previous one that happened last week where a woman was also found killed in the same area," she said.

A case of murder was opened by the police.
