Just like that, athletics season is upon us. Last week saw it starting with a bang as Graeme College held its annual inter house athletics day on Thursday.

A number of pre events took place on Tuesday. The Victoria Primary School athletics day takes place at Graeme athletics track on Friday.

It’s then into the inter-schools athletics meetings, with Graeme hosting the first of these on Saturday 19 September.

This is the senior boys quadrangular and will see local schools – Graeme, St Andrew's College and Kingswood College coming up against Port Elizabeth’s Grey High School athletes.

The junior boys and senior girl’s triangular athletics meetings take place on Tuesday 22 September.

Graeme will host the boy’s event, made up of Graeme, St Andrew’s Prep and Kingswood while Kingswood hosts the girl’s event (Kingswood, Victoria Girls High School and Diocesan School For Girls).

Schools will have the next few weeks to pick their sides to take part in the annual Hirsch Shield athletics meeting.

This year’s event will be hosted at Queens College, who have won the meeting for 13 consecutive years.

The Hirsch Shield takes place on Thursday 24 September.
