You have the choice of two routes:
(1) Take the N2 from Grahamstown towards PE. After 20 km turn right onto the gravel Alicedale Road. Drive for 10,5 km. Turn right onto the Highlands Road and wind your way 5kms up the Highlands Mountain. Pass through the stone railway arch. The church is in the valley on the left-hand side. Travel time +-45 mins.
OR
(2) the scenic route (not as good a road as Route 1) – take the Highlands Road from the Industrial area (off Rautenbach Road). Pass Mariya uMama weThemba Monastry. Drive for 25 kms on the gravel road. The church is in the valley on the right hand side of the road just before the stone railway arch. Travel time +- 45 mins.
The mountain-bikers will be on this road between 09h30 and 11h30, so we’d recommend Route 1 to get to the church, and Route 2 on your way back to town.
