The 102nd meeting of the annual Bathurst and District Lawn Tennis Association tennis championships took place over the past two weekends.

Singles, doubles and mixed doubles games were played at Graeme (A league), Kenton and Kingswood (B league) and Grahamstown Tennis Club (C league).

Wikus Ventre and Lisa Lawson were crowned the men’s and women’s singles tennis champs in the A section while Chris Gleaves won first place in the B men’s singles and Margot Wyllie won the women's.

The championships were the culmination of the leagues, which ran from beginning of April, with Port Alfred winning the A league, while Kenton won both the B and C leagues.

The Grahamtown Tennis Club claimed a runner-up spot, finishing second in the C league.

The event culminated in an enthusiastic prize-giving ceremony at the Grahamstown Tennis Club where various awards were given out – among them the coveted "wooden spoon",' awarded to those teams finishing last but hanging on to their sense of humour and good sportsmanship.
