A small fire at Shoprite at Market Square this afternoon caused panic among customers and bystanders.

When Grocott's Mail arrived at the store about 3pm on Thursday 27 August a small crowd had gathered outside the shop.

People who had been inside the store said there had been a fire in the delicatessen section caused by cooking oil.

The fire was quickly put out. But the store had to be closed for the day due to smoke inside the shop.
