Johan Botha, Lesley Sauls and Anton Annendale represented Grahamstown and the Makana region at a national bodybuilding event on Saturday 8 August.

The International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation hosted participating bodybuilders from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Johannesburg.

Policemen and women from across the country attended with the aim of claiming the title of SAPS champion.

The bodybuilders did Grahamstown proud as Botha, who competed in the masters division and the 1.79m height division, came home as winner of both.

Sauls took first in the under 1.72 height division and Annedale went against several of the SAPS’s best in the over 1.79 height category and took home third place.

“We as the EC took the overall first place as well.

We are so pleased with the results and lucky to have taken home a handful of really impressive trophies,” Botha said.

The next step for these dedicated sportsmen is to compete against fellow South African body builders at the South African Champs that will be hosted in Johannesburg from 4 to 6 September.

If successful, Botha, Sauls and Annendale will form part of a national team that will compete in the Mr Universe bodybuilding championships hosted in Italy over October.

“Now it’s just a case of us really working hard on not maintaining our skill but also improving our standard of competing,” Botha said.
