The hats were fantastic and fancy at the Madhatters Tea Party at Victoria Primary School on Saturday 15 August.

Parents decorated tables in the school hall according to themes from Alice in Wonderland in preparation for the arrival of around 200 excited guests.

Mad Hatter's was where the school children and their parents came to have a mad and fun time with the teachers.

One of the highlights was a comical ballet performance by the two male staff members – one of them Anthony Greyling, also the main organiser of the event.

Pupils, parents and teachers took to the stage to perform in isiXhosa and English, with flutes, violins, guitars and African drums.

The grand finale was the ‘’crazy teacher dance’’.

The programme was directed by principal Colettte Kaiser and the event as a whole, was put together by the Parent Teachers' Association (PTA).

The purpose was to raise funds to complete renovations to the Playbox, where the school hosts its functions.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be used towards the renovation of this facility.

On Saturday, the Playbox was full of tables of mouth-watering treats. Special Guest speaker was Lara Kruiskamp.

Kruiskamp is an accomplished marathon runner and she spoke of never giving up and the pursuit of realising your life dreams.

Greyling said the Mad Hatter's Tea Party had been a chance for parents to meet each other and get to know the lighter side of their children's teachers. Greyling said thanks to its success, the tea party might become an annual event, with other fun themes for young and old.
