DJ Tira will be among the speakers at a one-day workshop for young people in the area who are interested in pursuing careers in the music and entertainment industry.

Organised by Makana Municipality and Sara Baartman District Municipality (Tourism Creative Industries), the workshop aims to help close the gap between local performers and the national music industry and will include:

o An introduction to the music business structure
o Music income streams
o Copyright issues
o Artist brand development.

Organisers say that all the guest speakers will be successful practitioners from relevant industries who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.

The line-up includes Mthokozi Khathi – better known as DJ Tira – owner of top Durban-based outfit, Afrotainment, which includes in its stable artists such as Big Nuzz , DJ Cndo, Naak Music, Fishermen and Dream Team.

Organiser Siyabulela Madyo, of Tell UR Friends Productions, said, "The training will focus on Makana Municipality artists for the start and is aimed at the youth of the municipality who are interested in pursuing careers in the music and entertainment industry.

"We will have different categories on the day of the training including gospel, kwaito, hip hop and DJs from around Makana – from Seven Fountains, Alicedale and Reebeck East."

Workshop
Date : 30th July 2015.
Time: 10am till late.
Venue: City Hall.
