Grahamstown police have opened an inquest docket after a 54-year-old man's lifeless body was found alongside the busy Jacob Zuma Drive road this morning, 15 July.

Grahamstown police spokesperson, Captain Milanda Coetzer, said the body of a man, aged 54, was found this morning by a pedestrian on her way to work at about 7.18am.

Coetzer said the woman was walking along busy road when she saw the body lying close to the fence of a house in the street.

"An ambulance was called, but the man was declared dead on the scene," she said.

Grahamstown police are investigating an inquest docket. Coetzer said no foul play is suspected.

"Grahamstown Detectives managed to make a positive ID after members of the community identified the man and informed the family," she said.

The man has been identified as Patrick Jelu, also fondly known as Bra Patrick. "He was receiving government grant," Coetzer said. anele@grocotts.co.za
