Grahamstown's own Zikhona Skeyi showed class and magnificent boxing combinations to walk away with the gold medal in the women’s lightweight at the South African National Amateur Boxing (Sanabo) Elite Championships on Saturday.

Skeyi overwhelmed Manusa Ngema of team South Africa in what was undoubtedly one of the best fights of the chamionships.

She was the only Grahamstown boxer in the finals. Skeyi, who comes from Masibambane boxing club, made a huge statement on the day and will now have an opportunity of working with some of the best boxing trainers in the country.

The gold medal win means she will now make the South African team and has an opportunity to represent the country at national level.

The 2015 Sanabo Championships were held at the new Indoor Sports Centre in Extension 6 last week (8 – 11 July).
