Salem Crossroads resident Leon Leach was woken in the early hours of Monday 13 July with a thud.

Leach said he was surprised to see that a refrigeration truck which had been parked on the slip road outside the Crossroads farm stall earlier was standing at an awkward angle, its back end dug into the ditch.

Leach, who lives in a container next to the N2 on the Salem Crossroads property, said he wasn't sure what time it was, but he took out some spades from the farm workshop to help the driver dig his way out.

When that failed and the driver said he would call for help, Leach went back to sleep.

Again he was startled awake by a thud.

There was a second truck in front of the farm stall.

This one was now stuck with its back end in the bushes on the other side of the farm stall.

The driver did not want to speak to Grocott's Mail, so Leach explained:

"The first truck was parked here earlier. The driver must have had a rest and decided to continue. "But in the dark, he obviously didn't know the ditch was there. "He called a friend, driving another truck, to help pull him out. But when that truck came, it ended up reversing down the other bank."

While Grocott's Mail there, around 11am, the first truck was being towed out of the ditch. The second 'rescue' truck had already been removed.
