16-year old PJ Olivier pupil, Navan Daniels, did well for the EP U25 Bowls Team which took part in the recent National Bowls Youth Festival in Oudtshoorn.

The youth festival, hosted by the Oudtshoorn Bowling Club, was open to U19 and U25 players, but due to the lack of U25 entries, senior players were also invited.

EP entered an A and a B team.

The A Team consists of: Navan Daniels (Albany Bowling Club), Wihan Visser (Despatch) and LeRoux Fourie (Graaff-Reinet). Elles Staas is the Manager from Jeffreys Bay. The B Team consists of: Alex Schwartz (Uitenhage), Francois Mathysse (Somerset East) and Edwin Nance (Despatch).

Winnie Staas is the Manager from Jeffreys Bay. The A Team won four out of their five games and the B Team won two of five.

The A Team finished fourth out of 26 teams and Daniels was the youngest member of the EP side.

"The tournament was very nice. I made a lot of new friends and chilled nicely with the boys. "I’m very happy and picked up a lot of experience. At the same time, I did very well and I'm really proud and pleased about my performance," said Daniels.

"I also received a lot of compliments and praise from people, including my coach and opponents at the tournament, which I highly appreciated," said Daniels.

EP Bowls started preparing for the U25 squad late last year.

Their first training session was in January this year, followed by a further training camp in March.

After this a team was selected to go to the Inter-Districts in Bloemfontein.

Elles Staas, the EP U25 manager said that while Daniels was not chosen for the original side, his enthusiasm, increasing confidence and good form, persuaded them to select him as a member of the Youth Festival in Oudtshoorn.

"There he performed exceptionally well and we see a lot of potential for his future as he develops his bowling skills."
