Grahamstown based cyclist and businessman, Jason Meaton, and team-mate, Jurgens Uys, finished third overall in the PwC Great Zuurberg Trek mountain bike race near Addo over this past weekend.

The three-day stage race, which started on Friday and ended with stage three on Sunday, saw some of South Africa’s top mountain bikers in action.

This is the second Great Zuurberg Trek, after the inaugural event took place in 2013.

Kevin Evans sealed what could be one of the last wins of his professional career when he and team-mate Pieter Seyffert claimed the overall victory.

Over 140 mountain bikers from across South Africa took part in the second edition of the three-day PwC Great Zuurberg Trek, based at the Zuurberg Mountain Village near Port Elizabeth.

The two-person teams explored a 200km route that covered the Sundays River Valley and mountains to the north and south of the race village and also took in sections of the Addo Elephant National Park.

    Top three standings:
    1. Kevin Evans and Pieter Seyffert (Biogen Volcan-Altech Autopage) 8:50:21
    2. Andrew Hill and Chris Wolhuter (TIB Insurance) 8:51:38
    3. Jurgens Uys and Jason Meaton (Isostar) 9:22:00

Read the full story, and what Meaton had to say about the race in Friday's edition of Grocott's Mail.
