The NG Kerk's annual fund-raiser at PJ Olivier last Saturday was a great success with plenty of people keen to snap up the delicious treats on offer.

After months of preparation by the congregation and the surrounding community, the day officially kicked off at 10am  Many local families had used their best traditional recipes to entice the crowds.

Johlene and Ezra Schoonbee sold beef products from their own farm and Anna Retief, Cecile Snyders and workers at the school’s hostel provided beef curry and rice.

Doreen and Emnie Kuhm brought along their venison and chicken pies and plenty of people bought their weekend veg at Erika Pienaar’s table.

For those who came with a sweet tooth,  Ds de Jager’s wife, Augusta, sold home-made biscuits and fudge parcels and Christo Bosch and Elsabe Lombard offered milk tart, peppermint crisp tart and cakes made by Aletta Oosthuizen and family.

A quick calculation revealed that 2400 koeksisters were prepared for the day.

Basaar-goer, Mierle Speraman, was proud to show off what she'd bought and said, “I come here every year to support the church”.

In the run up to the Basaar, Ds de Jager promised to dye his hair blue if they met their fund-raising target. He says they are now very close and, as a man of his word, he promises to show off his new look by the end of this week. Watch this space!
