The Rhodes Archery Team returned from the 65th SA National Championships in Johannesburg holding their heads high, with some excellent shooting from all archers.

Yashin Naidoo reclaimed his title as National Champion, with two gold medals, in the Recurve Cub Boys Division. He was also awarded his SA National Colours for Archery.

Christin Barnard won gold and bronze in the Recurve Women’s Division.

This year saw particularly strong competition in the Compound Men and Women’s divisions, but Rhodes Archers stood their ground.

The final ranking after eliminations for Compound men was in 9th position Simon Naude and in 17th position Lance Ho, while Ettione Ferreira ranked 9th in the Compound Women’s Division and Jaclyn Stevens ranked 4th in the SANAA Recurve Limited Division.

The SA National Champions have received world ranking status from the International Archery Federation, which means archers can qualify for international ranking points.

According to SANAA, “The status is highly sought after as it brings many benefits to our members and is worth the extra effort to ensure international tournament compliance.”
