The Makana municipality will be receiving operational hand-holding from the provincial government for the 2015/2016 financial year which begins next week.
The announcement was made by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) MEC Fikile Xasa during his policy speech in Bisho last week.
The beleaguered municipality was named among 13 dysfunctional municipalities struggling to conduct day-to-day operations.
Most of them received dismal audit reports.
They are Makana, Mbhashe, Ngqushwa, Great Kei, King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD), Mhlontlo, Mbizana, Ntabankulu, Lukhanji, Intsika Yethu, Kouga, Ikhwezi and Ndlambe.
Makana is among four municipalities from the Sara Baartman district on the list, alongside Ndlambe, Ikhwezi and Kouga.
Xasa will send teams of experts to the dysfunctional municipalities to help them get back on their feet.
In his state of the province address last month, Premier Phumulo Masualle said R290 million would be spent on pumping up performance in Makana, Inkwanca and KSD, and in helping pay their Eskom debt.
Makana was placed under administration in August last year after the collapse of its finances and administration.
