Amatola Water has appointed Lefadi Makibinyane as its new Chief Executive Officer, as of 2 February.

Amatola Water has appointed Lefadi Makibinyane as its new Chief Executive Officer, as of 2 February.

Amatola is contracted by Makana Municipality to manage its bulk water supply.

Makibinyane joins Amatola Water from the Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA), where he most recently served as CEO.

He succeeds the water utility’s current Interim CEO, Mzimkulu Msiwa, who has acted in the position for over two years.

Makibinyane is an accomplished engineer and executive, having worked in various leadership positions in both public and corporate institutions, including the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality; Fieldstone Africa; Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC), the South African Breweries (SAB), and Sasol.

He holds an Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Teesside, Middlesbrough, in the United Kingdom, a post Graduate Certificate in Project Management as well as Masters in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa’s School of Business Leadership, in Pretoria.

He also serves as a non-executive director on the Boards of Rand Water, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and the Gauteng Partnership Fund.

Amatola Water’s Board Chairperson, Nothemba Mlonzi has said that the appointment of Makibinyane comes at a very crucial time when the utility is faced with a myriad of growth opportunities.

As CEO of Amatola Water, Makibinyane will drive the utility’s 20-year strategy, currently in its second year of implementation, and play a key role in steering the water board as it strengthens its role in water-services delivery in the Eastern Cape.
