It's that time of year again, when traditionally Christians got ready for the fasting season of Lent by having a 'feast' on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday.
This year Shrove Tuesday falls on 17 February, and not one, but two churches in Grahamstown are offering pancake suppers or treats.
The congregations of the Cathedral and Christ Church will keep up the tradition by welcoming all comers to buy and eat pancakes.
The good news for students and anyone else on a tight budget is that these delicious and nourishing pancakes will be on sale at last year's prices – only R10 for a savoury one filled with mince or chicken," said Cathedral media liaison Maggy Clark.
"Vegetarian and sweet options are even cheaper."
The Cathedral pancake feast will get under way at St George's Hall, down the lane opposite King Pie, at 5pm, and continue until 7.30pm.
There will be tables available for families and friends to sit down and eat together, or you can bring a container and take away your pancakes to enjoy at home.
On the other side of town, Christ Church will also be selling delicious pancakes, also starting at 5.30pm.
Who knows – perhaps this is the beginnings of Grahamstown's Shrove Tuesday Pancake Crawl…
