A senior manager in Makana Municipality is under investigation after a junior employee laid a charge of victimisation against him last week. Sources within the municipality claim this might be a political ploy to oust that manager.
Makana administrator Pam Yako when contacted by Grocott's Mail confirmed that there is a grievance laid against a manager.
"It is true. We are still investigating. Unfortunately we cannot divulge the name," Yako said on Thursday 22 January.
Grocott's Mail contacted the senior manager accused of victimisation.
He confirmed the complaint had been made against him.
"I received a letter informing me that there is a formal grievance laid against me by an employee from the municipal manager's office," said the manager.
He would not comment further on the allegation.
A letter signed by acting municipal manager Busi Khumalo says, "This letter serves to inform you that on the 12 January 2015 a grievance against you has been lodged by [name]… Kindly be advised that an independent investigator will be appointed to investigate the matter."
Grocott's Mail has been informed that the issue could be discussed in the next Council meeting; however, Yako would not divulge further details of the investigation.
Makana Municipality has been wracked by controversy since its finances collapsed at the end of 2013. The DA and others have called for a forensic audit report by auditors Kabuso to be made public.
The report implicates a numbers of officials in Makana Municipality in allegations of fraud and mismanagement of funds.
